The Guevara Tower, also known as Michelangelo's Tower or the Tower of Sant'Anna, is one of the most evocative historical sites on the eastern coast of Ischia. It is located in the Cartaromana area, directly opposite the Aragonese Castle, in a unique landscape where sea, rocks, and history blend together in a unique natural setting.
Built between the late 15th and early 16th centuries as part of the Aragonese defense system, the tower served as a lookout and protection against seaborne incursions, defending the coast and the nearby castle. Over time, it also became the residence of the Guevara family, from which it takes its name.
The square-plan structure extends over multiple levels, with architectural elements typical of Neapolitan Renaissance fortified houses. Today the tower is also a cultural space used for events and exhibitions, as well as being one of the most photographed panoramic points on the island, especially at sunset, when the Aragonese Castle is reflected in the sea, creating one of the most iconic views of Ischia.
