Il Fungo
An iconic tuff rock in the sea off Lacco Ameno, a natural symbol of Ischia, famous for its distinctive shape and panoramic seafront location.
Ischia's Mushroom (Il Fungo) is one of the island's most recognizable landmarks, located opposite the center of Lacco Ameno. It is a large block of green volcanic tuff, likely detached from Mount Epomeo in ancient times and shaped over time by the action of the sea, wind, and atmospheric agents.
Its distinctive mushroom-like shape has made it a natural and touristic symbol of the island. It is easily visible from the seafront and is one of the most photographed spots on Ischia, especially at sunset when the light enhances the contrasts between the rock and the sea. Beyond its scenic value, it is also an interesting example of the island's dynamic volcanic nature.
