The Chapel of Santa Maria Assunta, also known as the "Chiesetta del Trivio," is a small historic chapel located in the historic center of Meta di Sorrento, in an area known as the "Trivio" because it is located at the intersection of three roads.
Of very ancient origins, likely dating back several centuries, it began as a place of prayer for the neighborhood's residents and travelers. Over time, it has been restored several times, while maintaining its simple, intimate appearance, typical of the popular chapels of the Sorrento Peninsula.
The building features a simple façade, a single nave, and a small bell tower. The simple yet evocative interior preserves religious decorations and images dedicated to the Virgin Mary of the Assumption, to whom the chapel is consecrated. Devotion to the Assumption was deeply felt in Meta, especially during the feast of August 15th, celebrated with masses and processions.
Despite its small size, the chapel represents an important historical and religious symbol of the local community. Today it retains the charm of the ancient Campanian neighborhood churches and bears witness to the deep Marian tradition of Meta di Sorrento.
