The Regno di Nettuno Marine Protected Area is one of the most important protected areas in the Mediterranean and encompasses the waters surrounding the islands of Ischia, Procida, and Vivara. It was established to protect and enhance a highly valuable marine ecosystem, characterized by volcanic seabeds, seagrass meadows, underwater caves, and a high biodiversity of marine species.
Its primary purpose is to protect the marine environment by regulating human activities such as navigation, fishing, and diving, while also ensuring the sustainable use of the territory. The area is also an important natural laboratory for scientific research and environmental education.
Thanks to its location in the Gulf of Naples, where diverse currents and climates meet, the Regno di Nettuno is home to an extraordinary variety of Mediterranean marine species and represents one of the richest and most delicate ecosystems in Campania.
